January 2012 : Public attitudes to FOI : review of FOI (Scotland) Act
The Scottish Executive has announced a review of devolved FOI legislation following a recent survey by the Scottish Information Commissioner into public attitudes in Scotland to the current law.
The FOI (Scotland) Act is similar to the UK FOI Act but applies instead to public authorities in Scotland dealing with devolved matters. The main FOI Act applies in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and also to non-devloved matters handled by UK-wide publicv authorities in Scotland. Matters devolved to the Welsh and Northern Ireland governments are dealt with under the UK Act.
The Scottish Information Commissioner recently commissioned a survey of public attitudes to FOI in Scotland http://www.itspublicknowledge.info/home/News/20111612.asp
The Scottish Executive government has responded to the findings of the survey with consultation proposals http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2011/12/13125045/0
